Imagine Earth without people

By Bob Holmes

Humans are undoubtedly the most dominant species the Earth has ever known. In just a few thousand years we have swallowed up more than a third of the planet's land for our cities, farmland and pastures. By some estimates, we now commandeer 40 per cent of all its productivity. And we're leaving quite a mess behind: ploughed-up prairies, razed forests, drained aquifers, nuclear waste, chemical pollution, invasive species, mass extinctions and now the looming spectre of climate change. If they could, the other species we share Earth with would surely vote us off the planet.

free balochistan?

This article, written by Ralph Peters, was published in US Armed Forces Journal in June 2006 and it shows a geographic picture of Middle East after 50 years.

The map shows NWFP as part of Afghanistan and Balochistan as a free country. I am not sure what exactly will happen after 50 years but the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti (repercussions of which we will have to wait and see) will no doubt facilitate the ongoing insurgency.

Not that I am a fan of late Mr. Bugti but Free Balochistan movement needed a martyr and, thanks to Musharraf, now they have one.
